In 15 years our team has guided over 40 successful expeditions to Aconcagua following various routes, as well as other peaks and traverses in Patagonia and in Northwestern Argentina. meridies® has led adventure programs in a variety of Argentine landscapes. meridies® has also provided outdoor education courses in an expedition format and delivered outdoor management development programs for a variety of organizations. meridies® is committed to work with certified and highly skilled outdoor professionals.
ALL meridies® lead mountain guides and assistant mountain guides are certified by the Argentine Mountain Guides Association, which is at present being integrated with the international union of guiding associations (UIAGM) mountain guiding standards. There are two mountain guiding training programs in Argentina (AAGM and EPGMT). Even though they are slowly improving their standards, we acknowledge that they have their limitations when you compare them to US, Canadian or European standards. One of our staff is also a UIAGM certified guide, graduated from the prestigious ´Ecole Nationale de Ski et d´Alpinisme´ of Chamonix, France. Other two lead guides are in the process to become part of the first group of Argentine UIAGM guides. Our lead guides have lived and worked (some of them still do) in the US and Europe for many years.
ALL meridies® instructors and facilitators have gone through the training programs of either Outward Bound or the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), the outdoor industry’s leaders in expeditioning and outdoor education worldwide. Over years of work, they have risen to occupy the highest leadership positions within these organizations, including chief instructors and course leaders. Some of our facilitators also worked for other consulting and educational programs in Argentina.
ALL meridies® staff members are certified as Wilderness First Responders (WFR); an 80-hours wilderness first aid training that is required to work in the outdoor industry of the US --but not in Europe, neither in Argentina--. Our guides and facilitators have been involved in the saving of many lives on Aconcagua and other remote places, for which they have received official recognition from government agencies such as the Armed Forces and the Park Service. In 2001 our company’s personnel were chosen by the Argentine National Park Service and the Aconcagua Park Service to train their personnel for wilderness first aid emergencies.
ALL meridies® staff members are certified as LEAVE NO TRACE Master or LEAVE NO TRACE Trainer (www.LNT.org), which makes us very consistent in our Minimum Impact techniques and more over, in our Environmental Ethics. meridies® has introduced strict environmental travel and camping practices into all their expeditions, which were taken as a model by the National Park Service and other companies. We were the first group of Guides in Aconcagua to pack out our human waste from high camps down to base camp. In March 2003 we delivered the first Leave No Trace Trainer course in Argentina, specially designed for the Argentine National Park Service Administration –APN-. |
